Canon New IXUS and PowerShot Models - Canon Fashion Fray

CANON, a favourite among amateur and professional photographers, is about to gain a new fan base with its new IXUS and PowerShot models that come in colours other than standard-issue silver. The IXUS 80 IS comes in pink, blue, two shades of brown, and silver, while the Powershot A470 are available in yellow, green, red, blue and grey.

Canon harnessed the latest technologies to pack the diminutive IXUS 80 IS with a host of features including Canon’s DIGIC III imaging processor, 3x zoom and 8 megapixel CMOS sensor, which support high-resolution prints up to A2 size. The brand new Motion Detection Technology and high-speed ISO 1600 means an end to blurred images.

“With five unique colours, the IXUS 80 IS embodies our dedication to creating best-in-class cameras, while catering to the individuality of our customers,” says Andrew Koh, Director and General Manager of the Consumer Imaging and Information Division at Canon Singapore.

“The PowerShot A470 continue the PowerShot legacy of cameras that effortlessly merge advanced photographic functions, convenience and affordability in one product,” he adds. “Our new PowerShot cameras empower users with more creative shooting options while remaining robust and lightweight.”

The IXUS 80 IS incorporates new technology that makes capturing clear and vivid images even easier. By introducing a Motion Detection function linked to the camera’s High ISO Auto mode, the IXUS 80 IS detects if subjects are stationary or moving and automatically adjusts to the ideal ISO setting for razor sharp images. The high-speed ISO 1600 setting delivers sharp images even in low-light conditions or when taking fast-moving subjects. For even more detailed focusing, the IXUS 80 IS features an advanced AF-Point Zoom function. By half pressing the shutter button, users can zoom in on the desired subject’s face to view their expression close-up before taking the photo.

The new IXUS 80 IS comes with 18 shooting modes covering a wide range of scenarios – including a new Sunset scene mode – that optimises image results under a variety of shooting conditions.

At high resolution 7.1 megapixel and 3.4x optical zoom, the PowerShot A470 delivers quality performance with complete functionality in a compact package. It is also equipped with 14 shooting modes to cover most photographic scenarios, including a new Sunset scene mode for great landscape images. User can also move in close to the subject with the 1cm Super Macro incorporated. The vertical shutter release adds more fun shooting photos in portrait layout.

PowerShot A470 also incorporates a Long Play (LP) mode for longer video recording times. The 2.5-inch PureColor LCD II screen has a wider viewing angle and the anti-glare coating provides easier viewing for image framing and playback.

Two New Lifestyle Smart Phones From

Two of the slew of new phones launched today by Sony Ericsson are the G700 and G900. Both are billed as lifestyle smart phones. And both have touch screens (this year's must-have feature), web browsers, organizer functions and UMTS radios.
The G700 is supposed to be for the rugged outdoor type, with its 3.2MP camera and RSS news ticker. At least, that's what the Sony Ericsson rep told me. He also struggled not to describe the G900 as a girl's phone, finally stammering out that it was instead "stylish". The G900, available in hot pink, sports a 5MP camera with touch focus: you touch the screen where you want the camera to focus.

Onyx Liscio Mobile Phone Release Announced - Onyx Phone Lisc

Onyx Liscio Mobile Phone Release Announced - Onyx Phone Liscio UK
Pure stunning genius, that’s what the Onyx Liscio is.
With its bold design and unique appearance, the Onyx Liscio fashion phone is anything but bulky and clumsy.
In fact you would go as far as to say that compact is it’s middle name.
The key idea behind this phone is to have it as a secondary phone, one to marvelled at and shown off when out amongst friends rather than being used as a day to day business tool.
Weight: 60g
Talktime: 3 hrs
Standby time: 8 days
Dimensions: 90 x 35 x 18 mm
.
The Tri Band GSM Onyx Liscio with GPRS support, weighs an incredible 60 grams, but smaller and lighter does of course mean fewer features and smaller ones at that, like the OLED display for example, which although full colour is just 1.1 inches.
Lacking in advanced technological features such as 3G connectivity and WiFi capabilities, the Onyx Liscio proudly takes this critism on the chin.

It may not be designed for viewing documents and speedy wireless internet connections but it does entertain and boast about itself incredible well.
The MP3 Player keeps you tuned into your music with 11 hours of continuous playback and the FM Radio keeps you up to date with last minute goals and the latest news and sports headlines.

Bluetooth provides wireles data transfers for sharing files and the standard 128MB internal memory is accompanied by a 1GB memory card that is included in the package.
Bluetooth of course comes with A2DP stereo support but there’s an additional wired stereo headset included.
Manage music and contacts and keep in touch with the Onyx Liscio. A phone that’s proud to be different.

Sony W890 Now on Pay As You Go - Sony Ericsson W890 UK

Sony W890 Now on Pay As You Go - Sony Ericsson W890 UK
The new Sony Ericsson W890 Silver edition has now been made available on Pay As You Go, great news for those who either cannot pass the network credit checks or just do not like contract phones as they can now buy a Sony W890 without the line rental charges or lengthy contract agreements.
The Sony Ericsson W890i, successor to the popular W880i, sees welcomed improvements to both functionality and overall design.
Although the dimensions are pretty much identical to that of the W880i, the W890i has gained some weight with all the extra functionality onboard and the battery life has certainly been improved now offering 9hrs of talktime.
The camera has been upgraded to 3.2 mega pixels offering higher resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels and autofocus functionality plus supported by a larger 2 inch display screen.
Video calling is available with the presence of a secondary camera and the Walkman Player 3.0 with TrackID music recognition and Music DJ Services has been joined by a built-in FM Radio offering RDS.
As already ascertained, the Sony W890i Walkman Phone is of course 3G enabled with access to a wide range of 3G Services using the HSDPA connection.
As with its predeccesor, the Sony Ericsson W890i is equipped with Stereo Bluetooth Wireless, USB connectivity and GPRS but now includes EDGE Technology on top of that.
With faster connections and data transfer times, accessing online content and downloading files and images is much easier and for more of a pleasurable experience.
Available in either Espresso Black, Mocho Brown or Sparkling Silver, the Sony Ericsson W890i has something for everyone.
RSS feeds keep you posted with the latest news and sports headlines, weather updates and more whilst the 2GB memory stick included in the package proves more than enough memory.

Samsung announces 8 megapixel cameraphone

Samsung announces 8 megapixel cameraphone

CES 2006 certainly had its share of new mobile phone announcements, but none of the new mobiles on show matched the current top of the line Korean phones that Samsung and LG have been selling for over a year now. While in Europe and the US we have to make do with the 2 megapixel models from Nokia and Sony Ericsson, in Korea, both mobile phone giants have 5 megapixel camera phones on sale, and have sold more than 300,000 of them between them. Samsung even has a 7 megapixel cameraphone model, the Samsung V770!

However, given that even smaller mobile phone manufacturers, such as Pantech and Gigabyte, have also released 5 megapixel cameraphones in Korea, Samsung clearly feel the need to raise the stakes. They’ve recently announced an 8 megapixel camera phone (Korea only of course), the Samsung SPH-V8200 ! Kind of makes CES 2006 look more like CES 1999! In fact, if it wasn’t for Samsung’s huge array of new phone announcements (25 models at the last count), CES 2006 would have been very poor for mobile phone gadgetry. Not a vintage year, it would seem.

Motorola RAZR 2 V9 Review

Motorola RAZR2 V9 Review
The RAZR 2 V9 is a superslim 3G clamshell phone that uses premium materials in its construction to give a quality look and feel. A poor camera lets the phone down in imaging terms, but the music player is fantastic, with touchscreen controls, plenty of memory and support for Bluetooth stereo headsets. The only problem with the phone is its below-average battery life.
The Motorola RAZR2 V9 is almost exactly the same as the RAZR2 V8, except that it's a 3G version, with a high-speed HSDPA implementation of 3G, enabling fast downloads at up to 3.6 Mbps. It also allows you to make video calls on a 3G network and can accept a microSD memory card.
nido.gif
The RAZR2 V9 is about the same size as the original RAZR V3, and looks very much like the original. It's built from premium materials - stainless steel & chemically hardened glass - with a two-tone soft-touch housing, and looks and feels like a quality product. The RAZR2 is a much higher-spec phone than the original RAZR though. There have been some design improvements too - the flat keypad is nice and responsive - and the external screen is the largest of its kind and is touch-sensitive. The external touchscreen can be used to control the music player, and also to read and reply to text messages. When not in use as a touchscreen, the external display shows information such as the date and time, or incoming calls. It's a multi-tasking phone, so you can use the music player whilst accessing the other phone functions.
The V9's camera isn't that brilliant. At 2 megapixels and no flash, it's well below average for this class of phone. It supports low-resolution video recording plus 3G video calling. The music player on the other hand is great. The touchscreen controls enable the music player to be operated without having to open the phone, and there's full support for managing playlists on the go. The media player is Windows Media Player® 11, which supports virtually all music formats and enables easy synchronisation with a PC. The internal memory is limited to 45 Mbytes, which isn't very much for storing music, but the V9 can take microSD memory cards up to 2 Gbytes, which is enough to store around 500 tracks. There's full support for wireless Bluetooth headsets, and also microUSB 2.0 connectivity, for fast data transfers from a PC.

Another nice feature in the V9 that first appeared in the RAZR2 V8 is CrystalTalk™. This is a new technology that improves call quality by automatically adjusting the audio to take into account of background noise.

The only thing that we don't like about the V9 is the battery life. The V9 is a slimline phone with two large screens to power, and 3G too, so it isn't surprising to find that the battery runs down pretty quickly. If you're a heavy user, we'd have to say that this isn't the right phone for you. But if you can live with the battery, you'll find the RAZR2 V9 to be a very stylish and feature-rich mobile.
